We will be needing over 500 poll workers for the 2020 Primary Election! To apply online, please choose the appropriate option below.
Ages 18 & Older
Whether you are a new poll worker or an experienced poll worker, you will need to complete the online poll worker application form to be considered.
The Chairs of the two major political parties have until April 15th to appoint poll workers. After April 15th, the Elections & Registration office will fill any vacancies. You MAY INCREASE YOUR CHANCE of being appointed as a poll worker if you allow us to forward your application to the Chair of the political party you have declared in the application form.
In the online application form you can choose whether you want us to forward your application to the applicable Party Chair or not.
If you choose not to have your application forwarded to the applicable Party Chair, your application will be retained by the Elections & Registration Office. The Elections & Registration Office will only consider your application for poll worker vacancies after April 15th.
If you are student age 16 or 17 and want to be a Poll Worker, you must:
have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
have written approval by your principal or, if you are educated at home, the approval of the individual responsible for your education;
have the approval of your parent or guardian;
be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Porter County;
satisfactorily complete the required training class.
You will be provided with the necessary forms to meet these requirements, and it is your responsibility to assure that the forms are completed and returned to us on a timely basis or you will not be allowed to work at the polls.
