Frost Law In Effect Sign
The Frost Law IS IN EFFECT and will last for the shortest duration possible but is based on road and weather conditions. The ordinance enacts a 5-ton weight limit on NEARLY every county road (all-weather roads maintained by the Porter County Highway Department are not subject to the Frost Law). Porter County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Divisions will be out in full force. Permits issued by the Highway Dept are for EMERGENCIES ONLY (i.e. septic backups). School buses and CURBSIDE trash collectors ON THEIR PRESCRIBED ROUTES are not subject to restricted weight enforcement.

Front of Administration Center Under Construction

Because of the construction on the plaza at the Porter County Administration Center, the public will not be able to access the building from the main entrance, effective on Monday, October 2. Access will be available through the parking garage as follows:

Street Level Access:  You can walk into the parking garage via the handicap ramp on the east side (Lafayette St) of the building.  After entering the parking garage, proceed forward and enter the door on your right marked “Level 3”.

Parking Garage Access: This option would be best for the handicapped and elderly. You can drive into the parking garage on the west side of the building via Napoleon Street and proceed to Garage Level 3, and enter the door marked “Level 3”. If you choose to park in the garage, parking will be free during normal business hours.

Emergency Management Public Survey Notice

In September of 2017, the Porter County Emergency Management Agency inducted a new command staff.  Our team is in the process of formulating a strategic plan that will launch us towards becoming the benchmark for Emergency Management in the State of Indiana.  In that effort, we ask for your help.  Please take a few minutes to complete our survey, and give us your thoughts.  We appreciate your feedback, which be used to make tangible improvements moving forward.
